While I was traveling to Louisiana, enjoying some time in the bayou hunting for alligators, the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) was hard at work making your tax dollars count and pushing for less bureaucracy.
DOGE shared updates on contract terminations, credit card audits, ESA reform, and wasteful grant cancellations and we’ll take a look at each update in this article (part 2 of 2).
My support for Elon Musk in unconditional and I stand with DOGE as they clean up DC! Incidentally, when I came back to Austin, Texas, I found my DOGE T – shirt had arrived in the mail. Sweet. I’ll share that pic later in the article.
DAY 85 (WEEK 13): USDA TERMINATES $120K FOREIGN CONTRACT AS PART OF 1.5 BILLION IN SAVINGS!
DOGE announced big contract updates:
“Today, agencies terminated 57 wasteful contracts with a ceiling value of $1.6B and savings of $1.5B, including a $120K USDA contract for an ‘Indonesia Environmental Policy and Law Enforcement Specialist.’”
DAY 85 (WEEK 13): 470K UNUSED GOV CREDIT CARDS DEACTIVATED
DOGE shared another credit card audit update:
“The program to audit unused/unneeded credit cards has been expanded to 30 agencies. After 7 weeks, ~470k cards have been de-activated. As a reminder, at the start of the audit, there were ~4.6M active cards/accounts, so still more work to do.”
This step tackles fraud and waste, with the table showing 209,832 purchase cards and 247,342 travel cards at or below the $1 limit or canceled by April 15, 2025.
DAY 88 (WEEK 13): INTERIOR DEPT REDEFINES “HARM” in Endangered Species Act
DOGE reposted Secretary Doug Burgum’s statement on the Endangered Species Act (ESA):
“The Endangered Species Act has become like the Hotel California: once a species enters, they never leave!”
The Washington Reporter detailed this reform: The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) and National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) proposed rescinding the regulatory definition of “harm” under the ESA. With 97% of species staying on the endangered list, the Interior Department, under Burgum, aims to increase flexibility and transparency. The rule aligns with the Supreme Court’s Loper Bright decision, focusing on the ESA’s plain text definition of “take” (actions like harass, pursue, hunt, or kill). Rep. Celeste Maloy (R., Utah) praised the move, hoping for more reforms.
Elon comments on DOGE at his Tesla Earnings Call on April 22
As Elon works long hours with DOGE, some have said he should spend more time at Tesla, but, when you think of it, how can ANY company including Tesla do well, if the U.S. has a huge out of control deficit?
DAY 88 (WEEK 13): NSF CANCELS $233M IN WASTEFUL DEI GRANTS
DOGE highlighted the National Science Foundation (NSF) for terminating wasteful grants which do not promote science.
“Great work by @NSF canceling 402 wasteful DEI grants ($233M in savings), including $1M for ‘Antiracist Teacher Leadership for Statewide Transformation’.”
The NSF announced: “Today, NSF announced it is terminating awards not aligned with agency priorities, ensuring current & new awards are consistent with our mission. We are committed to creating opportunities for all Americans everywhere, without exclusion of any groups.”
NSF Grant awards will now focus on merit, competition, equal opportunity, and excellence, as they should!
My Thoughts: DOGE DIARIES

As I mentioned, I was fortunate to visit Louisiana this past week. While Elon owns a chainsaw to symbolize cost cutting by DOGE (gifted by Javier Milei), I came up with a similar analogy having to do with the alligators I saw on my trip. Alligators love to lunge and attack. DOGE can also be compared to a hungry alligator! I saw plenty!
Glad to own a genuine DOGE shirt, and you can order one from America PAC. (See @America on X)
